Garden Lates with Asylum Link Community Choir
Sunday 16 August – Garden Lates – Asylum Link Merseyside Choir
The Choir at ALM was recently described as an ‘explosion of joy’. You might not think Asylum Seekers have anything to be joyful about, but that leans more on the label than the people behind it. Each week they get together on a Thursday afternoon and sing their hearts out and through the music and the dance, each person makes their own mark in their community. They provide a place to belong, where you can bring parts of your old life and weave its music into the lives of others.
Their Music creates something new from what went before and, in many ways, it reflects people’s journey to the UK, their past lives, and the lives of the community in which they find themselves today. The Choir has members of many faiths and none, it spans 10 different nationalities, 11 if you count Scouse. Its songs encompass Oshiwambo, Swahili, Lingala, French, Spanish, Welsh and snippets of other languages. The Choir alters as people join and leave, and has been singing for over 10 years.
Local choir bringing fun vibes to this summer evening in Sefton.
